Summer 2006

News - Newsletters

I returned from Peru last month and while it is so nice to be home, its very difficult to leave. The kids are all so lovely and are so grateful for all that is done for them, through the generous donations of all you here at home. We had a party for the kids the day before I left, we expected 100 children and about 200 turned up! It was a lovely afternoon and the really nice thing was so many parents came to say "Hello" and "Thank You".

During my two month visit, a new class room and toilets for a small voluntary "Special Needs" group was started. A new dining room for the community of Juan Pablo II was designed and started. Work on a dining room for the community in Nueva Esperanza was restarted; they had run out of money.

A number of social projects were also undertaken for destitute families, mostly medical projects. In Peru, no matter how poor you are, you must pay a minimum fee for medical services, to the Health Clinic, Hospital or Pharmacy.

One lady there, Doris, had cists on both her ovaries, and she suffered until we could arrange medical help. She is a lone parent with a little boy of 5.

Another family with two boys and a baby of 3 months old live under plastic. So now they are building two rooms with the materials we bought for them.

Another boy of 17, who was supporting his family working in a bakery while also trying to attend the local High School, needed urgent medical attention for depression and headaches. He felt the huge responsibility for providing for his parents and family even though he is little more then a child himself.

"Our aim on the next trip is a dining room for the Los Angeles" community and one for the community of San Jose. However, I know that there will be many other demands as Sister Noemi continues her work with these very poor communities.

Below you will see the Budget and Expenditure for these projects.

The local people are also helping in different ways. Tony is very helpful with translating and distributing monies as work progresses. Martha has provided many lovely lunches and Melanio is a generous Taxi driver who dosen't mind taking his car up over the worst kind of dirt roads and up the steep hillside of Las Lomas.

Thanks again on behalf of the Communities in Las Lomas De Carabayello, Lima
