2005
In 2004, a Community Dining Room was built in Los Jardines from your generous contributions. In 2005, two more were set up in temporary shelters. The permanent structures are being built in "Cielo Azul" and "Nueva Esperanza". (This means New Hope). The budget for the material and the cost of providing food for the first year for these two projects is approx 10,000 Euros. These will be come self-sufficient once the Government Aid becomes available.
Medical Aid
Part of your contributions was used for the medical needs of the poor. On my last trip, I visited children with epilepsy, children with disabilities and other illness. In Peru you cannot attend a doctor without money. One such child was a little boy who had an operation some months earlier. His wound did not heal and his family had no money for him to return to the hospital to have his wound seen. We were able to help him and many others like him.
Volunteer Clinic
We succeeded in making an arrangement with a Doctor (His name is Dr Tony Lazzara (www.villalapazfoundation.org) to run a voluntary Clinic for destitute kids. It is about 50 miles from Carabayello and he has agreed to help the poor kids we refer to him who have serious illness and who have no money.
My Next Trip
I will return in mid March this year for another period. My plan this trip is to build two more dining rooms and begin to organize the building of a small school for kids with disabilities.
Special Thanks To
Thanks again on behalf of all the children in Los Lomas for your generous contributions and to all who help with fundraising. Without your generous contribution none of this would be possible. Please encourage your friend to consider contributing to this worthy cause as we approach Lent and help make a difference in these poor peoples lives. A little goes along way! All donations will be gratefully received.
